OK, who is this guy?

Hey everyone reading this, my name is Nick. I am a New Jersey Paramedic, and these are my tales as a Baby Medic. I became a medic in 2024 and have been enjoying my time greatly.

So, back in 2013 I was a mess up. I was 17, in high school, and had little to no future. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life and truly figured I was going to end up as a deliver driver for the rest of my life. I mean I still kind of did. Well, my parents told me I needed to figure something out to do outside of school. The easiest thing was the volunteer ambulance building a 2 minute walk down the hill from my house.

I lived in a small town and the ambulance corps went to maybe 300 calls a year. Figured it was an easy thing to keep me busy and my parents off my back. I think it was either November or December of 2013 I took my first call. A brand new members, CPR card in my wallet, a crappy radio on my hip, and absolutely 0 knowledge in my head.

The call was a simple respiratory distress, but it hooked me. From then on I decided this is what I want to do with my life. I want to help people. I want to be there for someone’s worse day to make it better.

Throughout the years I have done just about everything EMT, Firefighter, Dispatcher, and now Paramedic. I have seen a lot and done a lot. But, the most important thing is I haven’t seen everything and I haven’t done everything.

My goal with this blog is to not just give me a place to spew crap, but to hopefully help the up and coming EMS professionals of the world. I feel that the most important thing we can do is pass on our knowledge to the next in line. We need to make sure they learn from our mistakes.

The set up of this blog is a few things:

  1. Share my experiences and the interesting things I learn from it.

  2. Give advice and guidance for anyone thinking about becoming an EMT or Paramedic.

  3. Share my point of view of becoming a new Paramedic and the hurtles that I have to go through.

This blog is not in chronological order and some of the information has been changed to protect the identity of the patient’s I have treated.

I also love photography. I will be adding in pictures I have taken over the years either while on duty or that have related to EMS in someway.
